SEOUL, Jan 25 (Reuters) - Kia Motors Corp, South Korea’s No.2 auto maker, on Friday posted a better-than-expected quarterly operating profit, swinging from a loss a year ago, boosted by a weaker won and lower costs.
The turnaround helped Kia’s shares jump as much as 6.75 percent to 9,960 won during the morning, outperforming a 1.1 percent rise in the broader market.

Kia Motors USA CEO Len Hunt introduced the new Borrego mid sized SUV during the first press day at the 2008 North American International Auto Show. The Borrego, Kia’s first vehicle available with a V8 engine, will come standard with a 3.8 liter V6, while the 4.6 liter V8 will be an option.

According to sales figures released by Automotive News, Kia Motors America posted a 3.5% sales increase over 2006. For 2007, Kia sold a total of 305,473 vehicles.
IRVINE, Calif. – Kia Motors America (KMA) today announced its 14th consecutive year of record sales with 305,473 units sold, a 3.8-percent year-over-year increase. Kia Motors America Inc. is the latest — and last — full-line automaker to create a certified used-vehicle program.
Kia introduced the program this month. U.S. Kia dealers will begin selling factory-certified late-model used cars and trucks in the first quarter of 2008.
