Canadian Forte Koup buyers will be able to order a special dealer installed package for both the SX and EX trim levels

One of the advantages to we have here at Summit Place Kia in metro Detroit is our proximity to our good neighbors to the east in Ontario, Canada. Yes, it’s true. While most of the U.S. has to travel north in order to visit Canada, residents of Michigan can travel either north or east! So that’s today’s geography lesson.
For today’s Kia news, we also look to Canada, as Kia has announced that Canadian market customers will soon be able to order a new dealer-installed trim package for the Kia Koup.
Kia Forte Koup R package
Beginning the middle of this month, Canadian buyers of the 2010 Kia Forte Koup will soon be able to dress up either their Koup SX or Koup EX vehicles with the SX-R package or the EX-R package.
Based on the standard Forte Koup, the package ties-in the Koup with the Kinetic Motorsports-prepared vehicles that Kia entered in the Grand Am Continental Sports Car Challenge earlier this year.
Included in the R-package is a four-piece body kit that includes a new front lower lip spoiler, body side sills and a rear decklid spoiler. A new aggressive stance is achieved with springs that lower the ride height by 1.3 inches, while the stock wheels are replaced by new 18” aluminum alloy wheels shod in Yokohama S-drive low profile tires. A new front strut bar also improves the car’s handling.
Although the stock engines remain the same for both models, meaning a 2.0-liter inline-four producing 156 horsepower for the SX model and a 2.4-liter inline-four with an output of 173-horsepower for the EX model, a new high-flow air intake as well as a higher-flow exhaust system could bump horsepower figures by as much as 10 for each model
Availability
According to Kia, the R-parts upgrade will be available as a dealer-installed accessory package and will be available for ordering by Canadian customers sometime in the middle of this month (May).
As for U.S. customers, the parts will be “specific to the Canadian market” according to sources at Kia. Added interest from owners in the states, however, could convince Kia to bring the package to dealers here in the “lower 48” (plus Hawaii and Alaska, of course). Stay tuned for more information.
